Every year KSDE will use the results from the five indicators: Academic Achievement, Gap, Graduation Rate, Progress in EL Proficiency,
and Reducing the Percent of Scores at Level 1 to create an overall result or outcome for subgroups, buildings, and districts using 4
categories to differentiate the results. The summarized outcome is compared to the state-level mean or average. How far above or below
a particular subgroup, building, or district is from the state average provides an important piece of information in terms of understanding
areas of effectiveness, areas in need of improvement, and how best to assign supports and resources.

- Below: Summary results that are more than -1.5 standard deviations from the state mean/average are considered below expectations. In
other words, the distance between a summary result at this point (a comparatively low score) and that of the state average is sizeable.
- Approaching: Summary results that fall between -1.5 and -1.0 standard deviations from the state mean/average are considered approaching
expectations. In this case the distance between the summary result and that of the state average is closer to the typical range of scores
but is still not in the average outcome range.
- Meeting: Summary results that are between -1.0 and +1.0 standard deviations from the state average are considered to be meeting the
expectations. Results in this range of scores are typical and right around the state average.
- Exceeds: Summary results that are above +1.0 standard deviations from the state average are considered to be exceeding expectation.
Results at this level are sizably higher than the state average.
